Legislation Update – January 2020

Posted by admin on Jan. 24, 2020  /   0

On January 21, 2020 The Senate passed our bi-partisan Bill SB303!

We worked hard in December to create an amendment to our bill with ACEC.  After fruitful discussions, ACEC moved into a neutral position and the Senate brought the bill to the floor for a vote.  Our next focus is for IIDA and ASID advocacy teams to work with the Assembly to move forward AB 324. We are engaged with the Governor’s staff and continuing outreach with many groups like the League of WI Building Inspectors, AIA and AGC.  An Assembly hearing is anticipated to be scheduled soon to review the bill. Please keep an eye on future emails and postings.

We encourage you, your friends and family members to contact your Assembly Representative to show support for AB324 and keep the momentum going.

SB 303 (passed) and AB 324 will:

  • Clarify the practice of interior design to include only interior alteration or construction projects within the proposed modernized scope of interior design.
  • Restore autonomy to Wisconsin RIDs who choose to prepare and stamp interior design interior technical submissions for projects that are non-structural, independent of an architect or engineer.
  • Streamline the requirements to become a RID while ensuring the high standards Wisconsinites have come to expect since the law passed in 1995.

Please contact Emily Kelly ([email protected]) or Bryan Soukup ([email protected]) with any questions.

Thank you for your support as we work to improve public policy for interior designers in Wisconsin.
