EVENT RECAP [Milwaukee]: Date to Care - Sustainability in Design

On April 17th, IIDA-Milwaukee held an event celebrating Earth Day at the Urban Ecology Center with our Dare to Care event. We had the opportunity to hear from Interface Vice President of Sustainability Lisa Conway, a very passionate and inspiring woman who educated us on how we can help take back our climate. The CEU educated us on many ways we could take action and a plan that offered an easy-to-understand framework to reducing our carbon footprint. The plans allows you to understood, adopt, and implement action by any organization or individual in the community. It allows you to see how easily sustainable design can be integrated into our everyday material selections and you can do what is right even if you are not trying for LEED certification on a project,. With sponsors Interface, Virginia Tile and Haworth we had about 20 people in attendance where learning, food and refreshments took place. There was a group building tour from local Interface rep Courtney MacDonald around the Urban Ecology Center showcasing many sustainable attributes and beautiful views of the city. As a take away we had an activity where guests could plant a seedling to start your sustainable garden and protect our bees, which is this years Earth Day focus.
