EVENT RECAP: Great Bag Bash 2019

Let’s first start off with what a great year! We wrap up the Great Bag Bash amazed at the outpouring of support for our IIDA WI students. Jaw dropping item donations, giving attendees, and a rockstar committee.  It was another perfect evening!

We returned to The Oconomowoc Lake Club for a fourth year; made possible by the sponsorship of club members, Matt (Coalesse) and Susie Cottick (Knoll Textiles) for the 13th annual Great Bag Bash.  Sponsorship for food, bags, and the bus poured in from our supporters; MDC Wallcoverings, Patcraft, Steelcase Design Portfolios, Cambria, Mohwawk Group, Koroseal, KRS Inc., and Shaw Contract.

Similar to a game show, five blocks of four students paired with bags were auction off for mystery prize inside.  Each student had a brief bio that was read out to the crowd, giving them a chance to get their name in the professional world.  We continue to focus on the students pursuing interior design degrees in the state of Wisconsin.  The committee wanted to offer the students additional opportunities to expand their network and engage with IIDA.  Student’s left the evening with a job shadow, portfolio/resume review or mock interview. Thank you to our professional development sponsors; Atmosphere Commercial Interiors, Aro Eberle Architects, Dimension IV Madison Design Group, Eppstein Uhen Architects, Eppstein-Uhen Architects, Potter Lawson, OPN Architects, Flad Architects, Strang, and Zimmerman Architectural Studios Inc. In addition, one lucky student, Terri Caminiti, received $1025 scholarship for having the highest sold bag in the auction, in which case, she has chosen to donate back to the scholarship fund.

Thank you to all our prize donors!  Attendees went home with event tickets, boating excursions, Sundara gift certificates, home décor like carpet, and much, much more!  The big winner of the evening was Allen Chen, who went home with the Bob chair donated by Knoll and Knoll Studio.  Congratulations to all the winners, we hope you enjoyed the evening!

During the event, we awarded the $1000 scholarship for the annual Susan Wohlitz Memorial Fund Essay Competition.  Students competed by writing and submitting a 500 word executive summary.  This year’s inaugural was Leslie Siggelkow–a student at Madison College.

Perhaps the most amazing result of the night was raising over $10,000 for the Susan Wohlitz Memorial Fund – The future of our profession, organization and scholarship winners all looks brighter as a result of this.  Thanks to all the great attendees and event donors.

We hope you enjoyed your time at the event and we see you again in 2020. Who knows, maybe even more additions will be made to the evening!

There are so many great photos we could not include them all here - so, check out our photo gallery.
