12:00PM - 1:00PM How I Design presented by Sina Pearson Description: “A photographic presentation highlighting my journey to become a textile designer and my design process. Topics include: Sources of inspiration. Process of developing fabric. Case studies – Creation of four distinct collections.” - Sina Pearson
2:00PM - 3:00PM Designing Motherhood: Things That Make and Break Our Births, presented by Amber Winick and Michelle Millar Fisher Description: Conversations on maternity and reproductive rights are often tiptoed around, rarely discussed in the realm of design. Lactation spaces have only recently become a common programming line item. Seeking to change that, Designing Motherhood examines motherhood and design out loud and in public, making sure design discourse includes these issues. Design impacts everything around us and learning design histories can chart a path forward. How have objects, experiences, built environments and policies been designed to support or fail motherhood? What design challenges remain? Join us for a conversation led by Amber Winick and Michelle Millar Fisher as they share their process of organizing their Designing Motherhood project and explore critical questions and universal design experiences that affect us all. The project investigates around 100 designs that have defined the material culture and experience of maternity over the last 100 years. The presentation and Q&A will look at the making of their book, exhibition, and series of public programs, all coming in 2021, and which explores the arc of human reproduction through the lens of design.
