“Best in Show” at the IIDA WI 2016 Celebrate in Design

Why did you get involved with IIDA and what have you found to be the most rewarding?

There’s an organic vibrancy within the design industry, and IIDA is a great way to tap into the professionals that work within the community.  Whether it be the professional or social events, IIDA presents quality opportunities to engage with industry professionals.

Favorite IIDA event/opportunity?

STRUT is definitely a favorite IIDA event of mine.  This event couples interior design with fashion design, which is the ultimate collaboration in my opinion.  The level of creativity and craftsmanship is phenomenal, the competition is fierce and it’s all for a great charity, which makes for a very entertaining evening.

I attended UW-Madison and graduated with a BS in Interior Design, and became NCIDQ certified in 2009.

Favorite restaurant?

It depends, if I am in Milwaukee it’s hard to avoid Odd Duck.  The Odd Duck team are true artisans, from the team putting together the food in the kitchen to the team putting the food on the table, their food product and expertise is outstanding.

Outside of Milwaukee, I share a favorite with chefs and food aficionados alike, Trattoria Stefano in Sheboygan.  The owner-chef for whom the restaurant is named, puts together an ever-evolving menu embracing local ingredients and combining them into Italian-regional inspired fare.

Favorite space?

Farm at the Carneros Inn, Napa Valley, CA

I love its sophisticated yet relaxed California chic design that incorporates a perfect blend of architectural elements of an American farmhouse and a contemporary restaurant with a menu of upscale farm-to-table cuisine.  Several outdoor spaces with alfresco dining further enhances your experience as you relax by the fireplace with a glass of wine while taking in sweeping views of the vineyards.

I enjoy doing things with my family, and as my children get older, more-able and adventurous the experiences get only better.  Lately, we’ve been doing a good deal of standup paddle boarding in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Greatest design inspiration?

Nature and the outdoors, there’s so much inspiration to be found out there.  The light, the color, the textures, the shapes and angles, it always sparks an idea. I like to incorporate what I see and experience in nature into design elements that are integrated throughout the interior spaces I design.
