Great Bag Bash

The Great Bag Bash is the largest fundraising event for the Susan Wohlitz Memorial Fund, part of the IIDA Foundation.  It is a scholarship fund used for the advancement of students pursuing interior design degrees in the State of Wisconsin.

Fundraising for the Susan Wohlitz Memorial Scholarship started in 2005 with a volleyball tournament.  The event has now evolved into a bag decoration event called the Great Bag Bash.  Through the determination and hard work of our committee, volunteers, and sponsors the event is bigger and better every year.

There is a silent auction, bingo, food, drinks, and a live auction when we auction off the bags designed that evening.  All proceeds go the the Susan Wohlitz Memorial Fund and our students pursuing Interior Design degrees in the state of Wisconsin.

Hope to see you there!

Great Bag Bash wrap up 2016

A new venue, new branding and new activities marked some of the exciting changes resulting in more fun than ever at this year’s 10th Anniversary Great Bag Bash.  The venue; The Oconomowoc Lake Club was made possible by the sponsorship of club members, Matt (Coalesse) and Susie Cottick (Knoll Textiles). This beautiful location provided more space accommodating record attendance: 225 people, and a better layout for event activities.

Another record set this year was 47 students in attendance.  In follow up to their participation, we have received many thank you emails from student attendees including buzz for events in the future.  We hope you enjoyed networking with each other and helping us rebrand the event as a conduit for the student community to interact with professionals.

The outpouring of donations for the food, silent auction and scholarship raffle were amazing.  Thank you to all our donors!  Attendees went home with event tickets, boating excursions, Sundara gift certificates and much, much more.  Five lucky students were sent home with over $400 each in scholarships resulting from raffle ticket sales.  The big winner of the evening was Carole Syse, who went home with the Knoll Womb Chair donated by Knoll and Creative Business Interiors.  Congratulations to our all of the silent and live auction winners!

As in years past, the bus ride from Madison, hosted by Patcraft, Joni Juergens; Lerdahl, Christina Robotka; and Koroseal, Koreen Pelot.  This year’s bus was filled with 45 attendees benefitting from a safe ride from Madison to Oconomowoc.  Luckily we didn’t have a snow storm like every other year!

Another item of note included the award of a $1000 scholarship for the first annual Susan Wohlitz Memorial Fund Essay Competition winner.  Students competed by writing and submitting a 500 word executive summary.  This year’s inaugural was Kayleigh Queoff –a student at University of Wisconsin- Madison.

Perhaps the most amazing result of the night was raising over $8,500 for the Susan Wohlitz Memorial Fund – The future of our professional, organization and scholarship winners all looks brighter as a result of this.  Thanks to all the great attendees and event donors.

We hope you enjoyed your time at the event and we’ll see you again in 2017.
