Number of years as a member – I joined IIDA last year

Why did you get involved with IIDA and what have you found to be most beneficial – As a faculty member in the Interior Design program at Madison Area Technical College I greatly value education.  I decided to join IIDA as I had attended several educational and networking events in the Madison area and they have been very high-quality and relevant to my work as an educator.  I am a member of other design associations as well, but IIDA’s focus on commercial design aligns with my professional interests and teaching specialty.

Favorite IIDA event – I very much enjoyed attending the CEU presentation by John Czarnecki, the Editor in Chief of Contract magazine, that was held at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery building a couple of years ago.

Hobby – This is not so much a hobby really, but my husband and I like to go on Segway tours on vacation.  (You know, those weird stand up riding things?  You’ve probably seen a mall security officer ride one…)  We have ridden Segways now, over 15 times, in 3 countries and multiple states.  It is a fun and fast way to see a new destination!  If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend trying it at least once!

Shameless plug – As an educator, I feel it is my duty to remind all of you how important your influence is on our interior design students.  Please consider hiring an intern, hosting a student for a shadow day, presenting to a class, or simply saying hello to a student at the next IIDA WI event.  Making students feel welcome and engaged is paramount to the future of the interior design profession and our professional associations.
